4 Signs Your Car Needs Suspension Repair
The suspension system has multiple important roles when it comes to ride comfort and safety. While many people understand that the suspension is responsible for keeping your journey smooth by absorbing bumps and bounces, it does much more than that. The suspension system is tasked with keeping all four wheels on the ground, thus ensuring adequate braking power at all times. It is also responsible for preventing the vehicle from rolling over during cornering. If you run into any of these signs of suspension failure be sure to head to the local auto repair shop right away so you can keep your car safe!
Struts, a component of the suspension system, utilize a special oil that allows them to absorb the cracks and bumps that riddle the roadways. If the struts crack or a seal breaks and this fluid is allowed to leak from their casing you will quickly find your ride is much more uncomfortable. If your ride comfort changes always be sure to inspect the struts right away in order to identify the root cause of trouble.
One Corner of the Car is Low
If you notice that one corner of your vehicle seems low but all of the tires are fully inflated there is a good chance your car is suffering from exhausted suspension parts. If the suspension has failed it will collapse, thus causing the vehicle to lean into the one corner, as each tire generally has its suspension components. This is a cause for concern as it will cause the car to drift as well as increase tire wear.
If you ever feel as if your vehicle is going to roll over, spin out or otherwise lose control while going around a corner there is a good chance the anti-sway bar has malfunctioned. This is the part of the suspension that is tasked with shifting the vehicle's center of gravity in order to prevent rollovers or any control issues during cornering.
As soon as you suspect some sort of suspension trouble you can test your vehicle by pressing on the hood or trunk several times to get the car bouncing up and down. As soon as you stop pressing the vehicle should return to normal ride height within 3-4 bounces. If it continues to bounce there is most likely some failed suspension parts.
It is imperative that suspension problems are resolved right away, yes for comfort reasons, but more importantly to keep your vehicle safe to drive.
